MAC to Offer CMP Study Group

A CMP study group is forming to prepare for the Summer 2012 exam. The first study group meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 17th, from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at MAC Meetings & Events. We'll review the CMP application process and answer questions about the application, exam, blueprint, and anything else you might need to know. The group will then meet every other Tuesday through the exam date in the MAC offices on the Landing. For more information or to join the study group contact Emily Lemons at elemons@macmeetings.com or (314) 584-6016.

Thank you for your interest in our CMP Study Group!

The first step is to go on the CIC website (http://www.conventionindustry.org/CMP/CMPCandidates/Requirements.aspx ) and review the requirements needed to sit for the exam.

  • CIC Requirements:
    1. 3 years experience in the industry
    2. Completion of 25 clock hours of industry-related continuing education within the past five years.
  • Once on the website you can download the current application

Who should take the CMP Exam?
All those interested in increasing their value to an employer, to gain general knowledge and for personal satisfaction and accomplishment!

What is required of me?
Commitment! Commitment! Commitment! If you are sitting for the CMP exam, you will need to attend as many of the study groups as possible as an active participant. There are 4 books from which you will study. The test will cover 5 domain areas, 49 tasks and 230 knowledge topics as established by the Convention Industry Council.

How often will the study groups meet?
The classes will meet twice a month on Tuesdays at 4:30 PM at the MAC Meetings & Events offices, 801 N. Second St., Suite 302 (located on the Landing). There is a pay-as-you-leave parking lot that you can enter from 1st St. Park at the west end of the lot - we are located in the Traders Building. Press the buzzer on the door and the receptionist will admit you to the building. Classes will last about 1 - 1 ½ hours depending on the material to be covered, amount of questions, etc. We may schedule more sessions closer to the test date if needed. There will be required reading before each session and short quizzes will be given at each class.

How much will it cost me?
Just your time and effort. MAC Meetings & Events does not charge for these classes. However, all test fees and books are on your own.

What do I do next?
Attend the first class on Tuesday, January 17th at 3:00 PM. This will be an introductory session to answer questions, discuss the study schedule, etc. Remember - the test will be based on what the book says - not what you do on an everyday basis.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

How will I know what to study?
You will be given an outline with subjects to be covered at the first study session. It will be your responsibility to read the required chapters and be prepared to discuss the subject matter. Other tips and information will be given to you at various times as needed.

Why should I get my CMP Certification?
It takes a lot of time and effort to become certified. There are study group sessions, exams and you will need to spend time studying on your own. It is not easy, it's time consuming and often frustrating. However, the rewards are well worth your time. We all work in a fast paced, hurry up world and lack of time is the most often used excuse. But anything of value comes with a price. Take the time to learn and to grow.

These designations are the industry's highest achievement awards. They say that you have taken the time to learn your profession; you take pride in the industry and that you want to be ranked among the industry's finest. Welcome to the study group!
